We’ve forgotten our mother’s face

By Evelyn (Star) Cadman

A warning about humanity’s neglect of the Earth

We've forgotten our mother's face

our sacred mother,

that births us and feeds us

And provides us with shelter,

and wonder…

our earth… Remember!

Why have so many forgotten her

even as she holds us in her arms?

Why have so many exploited her

with little thought for her charms?

The truth is need has turned to greed

and to the damage is almost done

to turn out Earth… our beautiful Eden

into a poisoned one.

Does no one care for the death of species

in man's drive to exploit her worth?

Why are not the laws efficient enough

to stop this rape of our Mother Earth?

For too long men have fought for his faiths

and argued over some ephemeral being

while all around a wasteland is made

on the face of the one who has birthed him!

What greater disrespect could humanity show

for the being who has provided his home?

But beware the vengeance she will wreak

when her distress is unmistakably known!

Overview:
Evelyn (Star) Cadman, a country girl with a love for music and poetry, serves us a powerful reminder of our sacred connection to the Earth. Written in 2005, it laments how human greed has overshadowed gratitude, leaving our “beautiful Eden” vulnerable to destruction. Nearly 20 years later, the poem rings truer than ever - a warning that feels urgent in the face of climate change, mass extinctions, and environmental crisis.
